Smart homes builtwith experience.

I didn't just read about smart home automation — I planned and built my own house with full automation from the ground up. Every cable run, every sensor placement, every integration was designed before the walls went up. Now I help others do the same.

Smart Home Automation

I built my own smart home. Now I help you build yours.

Before a single brick was laid on my house, I had already designed the entire automation system. Which cables go where, how many data points per room, where the central hub sits, how heating zones map to architectural plans — all planned at the blueprint stage.

That's the difference between a smart home done right and one bolted on after the fact. Retrofit automation is always a compromise. Planning it into the build means cleaner installs, better reliability, and capabilities that simply aren't possible after walls are plastered.

I use Home Assistant as the brain — open-source, local-first, no monthly subscription, and compatible with virtually every protocol and device on the market. Combined with the right hardware, the result is a system you own and control completely.

New Build Consultancy

Plan it right before the walls go up.

The best time to design a smart home is before the build starts. Conduit, cable routes, and panel locations planned at blueprint stage cost almost nothing. The same decisions made after plastering cost a fortune — or don't happen at all. I've been through this process on my own house and can guide you through every phase.

Blueprint stage

Automation planning

Before your architect finalises plans, we review them together. I mark up where conduit should run, where the patch panel and hub should sit, how many data points each room needs, and which walls need cable routes before they're built.

Timing:Ideally before plans are approved
During the build

On-site coordination

As the build progresses I'm available to answer questions from your electrician, review cable runs, and adapt the plan if the build changes. Catching problems at this stage costs nothing — after plastering it's expensive.

Timing:Rough-in & first fix stage
Fit-out stage

Device selection & spec

Once the shell is complete, we finalise every device: which switches, sensors, thermostats, cameras, and controllers. I specify by brand and model with reasoning — no guessing, no wasted spend on incompatible hardware.

Timing:Before second fix
Commissioning

System setup & handover

I configure the full Home Assistant system, build your automation logic, and walk you through how everything works. You get full documentation so you can manage and expand it yourself.

Timing:At practical completion

"I went through every one of these phases on my own house — from marking up the architect's plans to commissioning the final system while living in it. The mistakes I made on my own build are ones you won't have to make on yours."
